Business
Configure your company's operating hours, service region, professional credentials, and tax rate in the Business section of Company Settings. These settings appear throughout Chisel Tide — on your customer portal, in customer-facing documents, and in tax calculations for work orders.
Access Business settings
From the admin dashboard, click Settings in the left navigation. The Company Settings page opens with the Business section selected by default.
Business Hours
Set your operating hours for each day of the week. These hours appear on your customer portal and help customers understand when to reach you.
For each day (Monday through Sunday):
Toggle the day to Open if you're available, or Closed if you're not operating that day.
If Open, enter your opening time and closing time using the time inputs.
Hours display with times separated by "to" — for example, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Days set to Closed show only "Closed" with no time fields.
You can set different hours for each day — for example, shorter hours on weekends or closed on Sundays — to accurately reflect your actual schedule.
Service Area
Describe the geographic region your business serves. This description appears on your customer portal to help customers understand whether they're in your service area.
Enter a clear, customer-friendly description of your service region. For example:
"We proudly serve the Greater Phoenix Metro area including Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, and Gilbert."
Include the cities, neighborhoods, or regions you cover. This helps potential customers quickly determine if you serve their location before they reach out.
License & Insurance
Display your professional credentials to build customer trust. These fields appear on your customer portal and in customer-facing documents.
License / Contractor Number — Your business license or contractor license number. This shows customers you're licensed to operate in your area.
Insurance Information — Details about your business insurance coverage. Include your insurance provider and policy information to give customers confidence in your professionalism.
Adding your license and insurance information helps establish credibility with new customers who are evaluating your services. Customers often look for these credentials when choosing a pool service provider.
Tax Rate
Set the default sales tax rate applied to taxable work orders. This rate is used when calculating tax on work orders created from templates that charge sales tax.
Entering your tax rate
Format — Enter the rate as a percentage. For example, enter
8.25for an 8.25% tax rate, not0.0825.Precision — You can specify tax rates to three decimal places (e.g.,
8.375).Range — Valid values are from 0 to 100.
No tax — Leave the field blank to apply no sales tax to work orders.
How tax is applied
The tax rate is applied to work orders created from templates that have Charge Sales Tax enabled. Here's how it works:
Work order template setting — When you create a work order template, you can toggle Charge Sales Tax on or off. When off, work orders from that template are tax-exempt — the tax rate is forced to 0 and hidden from customer-facing views.
Line-item taxable flag — Individual line items on a work order each have a taxable setting. By default, line items are taxable. Only the subtotal from taxable line items is multiplied by your tax rate.
Default tax rate — When a work order is created from a tax-charging template, the system uses the tax rate from Business Settings unless a different rate is specified.
Example
If you set a tax rate of 8.25% and create a work order with three line items totaling $500, and all items are taxable, the tax amount is $41.25 (8.25% of $500). If one $100 line item is marked non-taxable, the tax applies only to $400, resulting in $33.00 tax.
Products in your catalog have a Taxable checkbox enabled by default. When you add products to a work order, the taxable setting carries over. You can adjust this on individual work orders if needed. See Products for details.
