Recurring Work Orders
A recurring work order repeats on a schedule. You set the cadence once, and Chisel Tide creates an approved work order for each occurrence and puts it on the technician's route for that day. Use a series for jobs that need quoting and a work-order lifecycle but happen again and again, such as quarterly filter cleanings or annual inspections.
Before you start
A repeat schedule is built from an approved work order. Draft and quoted work orders only support a pencil-in date and technician until the customer approves, so the work order must be approved before you can set up the repeat. The creation flow below approves the work order for you.
Create a recurring work order
Open the Routes page and go to the Recurring Work Orders tab.
Click New recurring work order and complete the normal work order form.
The work order is approved when you save, and Schedule & assign opens with Repeat already enabled.
Set the first date, the technician, the repeat cadence, and the end condition, then save the schedule.
To create the schedule without choosing a technician, choose Assign later: the technician stays unset, and you choose a technician for each work order as it is generated. Assign later is also available when you edit the schedule.
If approval fails, the work order is saved as a draft: approve it from the work order page, then open Schedule & assign to set up the repeat.
Start a series from an existing work order
On an approved work order, choose Schedule & assign, enable Repeat this work order, and set the first date, technician, cadence, and end condition. Click Save schedule & repeat to create the series; a schedule without a repeat saves with Save schedule. You can also choose Assign later here to leave the technician unset and choose one for each work order as it is generated.
Repeat options
Choose a quick cadence: Every 2 weeks, Every 4 weeks, Every month, Every 3 months, Every 6 months, or Every year. For anything else, use Every and enter a number of weeks (1 to 26) or months (1 to 12).
The schedule anchors to the first occurrence. Weekly repeats keep the same weekday. Monthly repeats keep the same week of the month and weekday, such as the second Tuesday; dates from the 29th through the 31st cannot anchor a monthly schedule. A preview shows the result before you save, for example Every 3 months on the 2nd Tuesday with your technician and start date.
End conditions
Under Ends, choose Never, On a date, or After a number of times. The end date must come after the first date. A count includes the first occurrence and must be between 2 and 200. You can set a date or a count, not both.
How repeats reach the route
The series creates each work order 30 days ahead and adds it to the technician's route for that day. Generated work orders are approved automatically, so customers are not asked to approve each repeat. When the usual technician is unavailable, the series uses the recorded coverage technician for that day. If no suitable cover exists, the work order keeps its scheduled date and is clearly marked for the office to assign. Generation does not wait for the previous occurrence to be completed, and dates missed while a series is paused are not back-filled. If the customer becomes inactive, nothing is generated, but the series is not cancelled.
Each generated work order is an ordinary work order with its own page, following the normal Work Orders lifecycle. Moving or cancelling one occurrence does not change the series schedule.
The Dashboard's Needs a technician section highlights approved work orders coming up in the next 10 days that have no technician, so you can assign them one by one.
Manage a series
Click a series in the Recurring Work Orders tab to open its series page. It shows the status badge (Active, Paused, or Ended), the cadence with the technician and end condition, the customer and property address, and every generated work order with its sequence number, status, scheduled date, technician, and total.
Edit the schedule
Click Edit to open the Repeat schedule dialog and change the technician, cadence, or end condition. Changes apply to upcoming work orders that have not started: occurrences that no longer fit the new schedule are cancelled, and missing occurrences inside the 30-day window are created. The first occurrence never moves.
Pause and resume
In More actions, Pause puts every upcoming work order that has not started on hold and takes it off the technician's route. No new work orders are created while the series is paused. Resume puts the held work orders back on the route and starts generating again. A held occurrence whose day passed while paused is cancelled instead, and work orders the office put on hold by hand are not resumed automatically.
End a series
Choose Cancel in More actions to end the series. Upcoming work orders that have not started are cancelled; occurrences already underway or done are kept. The series shows as Ended afterward.
