Single Import a Customer

Use the PDF import feature to create a customer from a signed agreement or intake form. Upload a PDF and Chisel Tide extracts the customer's information automatically, then opens a pre-filled form for you to review and save.

Upload a PDF

  1. Go to Customers in the navigation.

  2. Click Import customers at the top of the list.

  3. In the import modal, choose the PDF import option.

  4. Upload your PDF file:

    • Drag and drop the file into the drop zone, or click to browse.

    • Supported file type: PDF only.

    • Maximum file size: 10MB.

  5. Click Extract to start the extraction process.

The modal shows Extracting… while processing. Once complete, the customer form opens with the extracted details pre-filled for you to review.

Review and save

After extraction, the customer form displays the imported information. Review each field:

  • Verify the extracted name, contact details, and address are correct.

  • Edit any fields that need correction.

  • Add or update any additional customer information such as phone numbers, tags, or notes.

Click Save to create the customer record.

WhatPDFs work best

The PDF import works with new-customer agreements and intake forms. For best results, use clear, typewritten documents where customer information is easy to read.

The extraction captures customer details from the document. You can always edit or add information before saving the customer record.

Troubleshooting

The PDF upload shows an error

Check that your file meets these requirements:

  • Only PDF files are supported. Other formats like Word documents or images won't upload.

  • File size must be under 10MB. If your file is larger, try compressing it or splitting the document.

Extraction failed with an error

If you see Could not extract customer info from this document, the PDF may be handwritten, blurry, or doesn't contain recognizable customer data. Try uploading a clearer document, or create the customer manually using Add customer instead.

Network error during upload

If you see a network error, check your internet connection and try again. If the problem persists, upload the PDF later or contact support.
